The life of Harriet Carolyn Blum is now a full circle. Upon her passing at 2:30 a.m., Thursday, October 9th, 2014 Harriet completed her full and well lived life. Harriet was born in Ramsey Township, North Dakota. Her parents Christian and Esther Olson farmed in Otis Orchards, Washington. Harriet graduated from Otis Orchards High School in 1947. She went to work for the Pacific Northwest Bell Telephone in downtown Spokane where she would often attend movies at the Fox or State Theaters between her split shifts. Harriet married Paul Leonard Blum, March 11, 1950. They had two children, Terry Lee Blum and Paula Christine Blum. They also had two grandchildren, Terri Leigh Grimes and Michael Brian Blum, six great-grandchildren. They had one niece Kathy and one nephew Robert (Bob), the children of Martin (Marty) and Sally Blum. Paul and Harriet moved to Bayview, Idaho in 1971. Harriet returned to Otis Orchards following the passing of her husband Paul in January 1997. Harrietâ??s son Terry Lee preceded her in death in February 2014. Harriet enjoyed the company of her life long, high school chums Mary Belle, Rae, Margaret, Dee and their spouses. She and Paul enjoyed many years of boating; some racing limiteds, some as crew for Miss Spokane, some with their family and friends recreating on local lakes. Harriet was an avid bowler through the years, from her Appleway Motors Team through local league play with Twyla and Millie and her many bowling friends. Thanks for the laughs and strikes and the occasional 200 plus games! Harriet was most recently in the process of selling her Spokane Valley home to move to South Carolina near her daughter. She was excited at all the new possibilities she and her daughter were planning. Harrietâ??s family would like to express appreciation for the friendship, care and concern of her neighbors, including Susan Van W. and George and Kathy K. Also thank you to the entire Haneke family for all these years of friendship and connection. Chris you are an Angel for sure! Finally, thank you to the entire staff at Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center for these last days of the roller coaster ride with Mom, Harriet. You were amazing to me, (Paula C. Blum). Dr. Katz, you kept Mom confident and hopeful. Dr. Fair, thank you for your honesty, skill and connection to patient and family. Nurse Sarah and crew, your goal was clear to me. You all were focused, precise, tender, respectful, and present with my mother throughout her time with you. You facilitated my presence at my Momâ??s side at nearly all times. I am grateful to all of you.
