George peacefully entered Heaven’s gates on November 13, 2018. He was born August 24, 1943 to George and Leona Nickus in Sheboygan WI. He graduated from Sheboygan South High School in 1961 before joining the Air Force, where he was stationed at Fairchild AFB in Spokane, WA, Clark AFB in Philippines, RAF in Alconbury, England, and Ellsworth AFB in Rapid City, SD. He retired as a MSGT Veteran of 20 years (1962-1982). He continued working in aviation for Boeing in Wichita, KS, for an additional 15 years as a Technical Writer.
George loved to golf and always looked forward to Thursday night league with his buddies. He also loved to hunt and fish whenever he got the chance. He was a huge Green Bay Packers fan and loved to wear his Packer gear for every game. George was also a huge supporter of his grandkid’s sports. He attended many games inside and outside and most loved to follow the youngest around the golf course. His presence at the games will be missed.
George is survived by daughters Traci (Steve), Renee (Tim), son Randy, sisters Donna Koontz and Patricia Sabourin, grandchildren Jordan (Heidi), Taylor (Taylor), McKenzie, Alyssa, and many close friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, sister Shirley Lorenz (and brother-in-law Phil), and his furry companions Schultz, Omega, and Max.
A memorial service and internment will be held on December 7, 2018 at 11:15 at Washington State Veteran’s Cemetery. A celebration of life will follow at Darcy’s Restaurant located at 10502 E Sprague from 1-4 pm.
Donations can be made in George’s name to Hospice House of Spokane, 1215 Arthur St, Spokane, WA, 99202 or Washington State Veteran’s Cemetery, PO Box 1511 Medical Lake, WA, 99022.
