Dorothy A. Allen (Age 94) Went to meet her loved ones in Heaven on January 12, 2014. She passed away at Vera Valley Adult Family Home in the Spokane Valley due to complications related to age. She was born on August 15, 1919 to Stan and Delia Bixby in Spokane, WA where she was a lifelong resident and member of St. Johnâ??s Lutheran Church. As a young girl, she met the love of her life, Dale Allen. He waited for her to grow up and then they were married on October 25, 1936. Four years later son Dick was born. Two years after, to the day, daughter Gail was born. Dorothy had a zest for life and lived it to the fullest. She worked for the US Postal Service and had a hobby/business making and selling lamp shades. For years, she enjoyed sewing for the family and made everything from coats and dresses to snowmobile suits and quilted bedspreads. For many years she spent time sewing for the Shriners Hospital for Children. One of her proudest accomplishments was being named Captain of the Daughters of the Nile of the Shrine. For several years she and Dale took time in the summer traveling with their boat and friends upriver to the Canadian border, camping along the way. Not one to miss out on anything, she gave owning a horse a try for a while. This went okay until she realized you sometimes have to go out in the dark to feed them. When she was close to 60 years old, she was introduced to the sport of trapshooting. She loved it and always said she would rather go to the annual Camas Prairie Trap Shoot then to Hawaii. However, they did enjoy travelling, taking various trips to Mexico, Alaska, and going on cruises. All the good times aside, family and friends were her priority and greatest joy. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren were her treasure. The family times together; birthdays, holidays, visits, camping and fishing were priceless to her â?? as she is to us. When Dale told her that he would take her anywhere in the world that she wanted to go for their 50th wedding anniversary, all she wanted was a party with all their family and friends; and thatâ??s what they had. There is no way to end this as there was no end to her goodness. So weâ??ll just stop with this; knowing that she loved and was loved. She will forever be missed, but we will go on remembering her and all she taught us about living life. Dorothy is survived by her son Richard (Della) Allen of Anatone, WA; her daughter Gail (Bob) Willman of Loon Lake, WA; sister MargeAnn Reed of Sacramento, CA; four nieces, one nephew, five grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Dale; elder brother John Bixby; younger brother Rich Bixby; nieces RaeAnn Morgan and Janice Krogh; as well as her grandson Greg Allen.
