Obituary for Diana Colleen Balam
Diana C. Balam (Hiebert)(Age 61) beloved mother, wife, and grandmother passed away suddenly from a heart condition on August 30th, 2021.
Diana was born on July 30th, 1960 in Newport, WA to Rudolph Hiebert and Della Kleidosty (Jeffers). She graduated from Newport High School in 1978 and went on to Spokane Community College where she received a degree in horticulture, specializing in floral arrangement.
In 1979, while attending a bachelorette party for her long-time friend, Arlene Corning, she met her future husband, Marty Balam, while he played in the band. She told Arlene, “Someday I'm going to marry that drummer.” They celebrated 40 years of marriage on March 21st, 2021.
Marty and Diana moved to Deer Park, WA where they raised their two children, Dustin and Carissa. Diana worked as a florist in Deer Park for 20 years at Melo's Flowers. She won numerous awards for her arrangements and was well known for being an excellent florist. In 2003, she began working at Nabisco, where she was quickly promoted to a sales position. In 2017, Diana was recognized as the Senior SSR of the Year for the NW Region of Mondelez International. She remained a dedicated and hardworking employee there until her passing.
Diana had a passion during her life for running and physical fitness. While a member of the Bloomsday Roadrunner Club she won Runner of the Year and continued her fitness regimen until she suffered a brain aneurysm in 2003.
Diana loved making salsa and canning it, going to yard sales with her children, gardening, doting on her grandchildren, laughing at her cat, and crabbing with her family at Winchester Bay. She will forever be remembered for her love of family, her frankness, her thoughtfulness, and her role model as a hard worker. Diana always checked the organ donor box on her driver's license without hesitation. She was able to donate lifesaving organs to three recipients. She will always be a hero to her family.
Diana is survived by her husband Marty Balam, her children, Carissa Dougherty (Trevor) and Dustin Balam (Jamie), her brothers Kenneth Hiebert (Kim), and Dennis Hiebert, her sister Becky Bosch (Randy), and her lifelong friends, Beth Slusser and Arlene Corning. She is also survived by her four grandchildren, Douglas and Rozelle Balam and Averi and Daisy Dougherty, whom she adored.
She was proceeded in death by her mother Della Kleidosty, her father, Rudolph Hiebert, and her brothers Curtis Hiebert and Steven Hiebert.
Please join us in remembering Diana on September 18th, 2021 at 1:00 pm. Service will be held at the Deer Park Golf Course Pavillion located inside the Spokane RV And Resort Park, 1205 N Country Club Dr, Deer Park, WA 99006.
