Clifford "Kip" Lee Mathena

May 17, 1945 - October 31, 2020

Clifford “Kip” Lee Mathena was born in Ellensburg, WA May 17th 1945 he passed away from cancer in his home surrounded by his family on October 31st 2020 at the age of 75 in Spokane WA. Clifford’s parents were Clarence L. Mathena (father) and Magna E. (Aanerud) Mathena (mother). Kip was the 2nd born of a family of five children. After graduating from Auburn High School, he enlisted in the US Navy where he received training in “electrical” during the Vietnam War which started his career as an Electrician retiring as a Journeyman Electrician with the IBEW 73 union. Marrying W. Marlene Short on November 11th, 1967. Kip and Marlene had three daughters. Deanne Mathena-Floyd, Jo Lynne Mathena, and Denise Mathena-Brown. Predeceased by his parents Clarence & Magna Mathena and his baby daughter Jo Lynne Mathena. He is survived by his wife Marlene Mathena, daughters Deanne Mathena-Floyd, Denise Mathena-Brown, and son-in-law David Floyd. Kip’s grandchildren are, Chantz & Katrina Floyd, Dominic Floyd, Collin Floyd, Joel Brown, Carson Floyd, Elle Brown, and Donivan Floyd and last by not least great grand-daughter Serenity Floyd. Clifford’s “Kip’s” surviving siblings are Mae Friedle, Seattle WA, Nancy Johns, Ephrata, WA, Duane Mathena, Yakima WA, and David “Lyle” Mathena, Buckley WA, along with numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Things that Clifford “Kip” liked to do was go fishing, camping, bowling, wood working, playing Pinochle, softball coach, and being and active husband, dad, and grandpa. Clifford “Kip” was a dedicated family man, loving husband to his wife Marlene of 53 years. A loyal straight shooting and very supportive father to Deanne and Denise, and an actively intentional participating grandfather to ALL of his grandchildren. A private “family” service will be held at the Washington Veteran’s Cemetery on November 20th, 2020.
