POWELL, - Charles - Roderick - "Rod" - (Age 78) Rod passed away Thursday, November 24, 2016, at home in Spokane, WA following a long illness. Rod is survived by his wife of 55 years, Vera Powell; his sister, Jeanne Powell; his three children, Jeff Powell, Todd Powell, and Kristi Powell Bronson; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Born in 1938 in Seattle, WA, he was primarily raised in Kalispell, MT and later attended the University of Montana in Missoula, where he received a B.A. in Business Administration. He went on to attend Pacific Coast Banking School in Seattle during a long career in banking with People's Bank. Rod and Vera moved to Spokane, WA in 1992 where Rod began a long, second career with the Washington State Department of Transportation as a right-of-way agent. He retired in 2006 and enjoyed golfing, traveling to various locations including Hawaii and Europe, and spending time with family and friends. Though Rod struggled with a long, terminal illness for years, he maintained a positive outlook throughout. The family gathered for his cremation ceremony on Tuesday, December 6 at Fairmount Memorial Park in Spokane. A memorial will be scheduled at a later date in the spring of 2017.
