Bruce was born April 16, 1934 in Chancellor, SD to Bruce and Sadie Wagar. He passed away December 14, 2021 in Spokane, WA, due to complications from COVID at the age of 87.
Bruce moved to Spokane in 1940 with his parents and little brother, Dutch. He went to Dishman Elementary School and graduated from West Valley High School in 1952. He enlisted in the Navy, attended bootcamp, spent time in Korea, and came home to marry his grade-school sweetheart, Joyce Steele, on December 31, 1953.
Bruce and Joyce had three children, Kevin Ray, Michael Allen, and Annette Louise. In 1964 he bought the family farm – 40 acres with a spectacular view of Mica Peak. He worked at Kaiser Aluminum for the next 30 years. Meanwhile, he was training horses at Playfair and other tracks throughout the years. After retiring from Kaiser he hired on at Wagstaff Industry for 10 years, which took him around the world.
Finally, in full retirement he took up golf, joined the Eagles, and played poker. He also enjoyed many an afternoon and evening cheering on his beloved Gonzaga basketball and Seattle Seahawks teams. He started raising buffalo and oat hay. He purchased property at Lake Roosevelt and loved his time at the lake property, fishing all day and singing oldies with the ipod. Evenings were spent laughing and telling stories around the campfire. He said we were so blessed.
Bruce was preceded in death by his parents, Bruce and Sadie; wife Joyce; son Michael; and great-grandson Larkin Applegate. He is survived by his brother, Dutch Wagar, his wife, Ruth, and their families; daughter Annette Wagar; son Kevin Wagar and his wife Kay; granddaughter Katie Sather, her husband Josh, and sons Henry and Holden; stepson Doug Morton, his wife Zena, and their sons Taylor, Mack, and Garrett; stepdaughter Debbie LaHue, her husband Ron, and their children Kendra and Ty; granddaughter Wendy Applegate, her husband Matt, and children Sofia, Samuel, and Charles; granddaughter Abbie Wagar, her fiancé Chris, and daughters Isabel and Krislynn, and stepdaughter Madison.
