Obituary for Arthur Mathis

Art Mathis, 89, passed away on October 31, 2018 in Spokane Valley, WA He was born on July 4, 1929 to Truman and Louise Mathis in South Dakota. He grew up with two brothers, Dick and Doyle, on a cattle ranch. When he was 16 he obtained his pilot’s license and later bought and flew his own plane.

Art met his wife Audrey in high school and they married in 1949. They went on to have 5 children, 9 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.

Art owned his own business selling farm equipment in South Dakota and later in California. He moved to Spokane in 1979 and began selling real estate until his retirement. He then volunteered for many years at Sacred Heart Hospital. Art had many interests including reading the Bible, watching sports of almost any kind, music and the outdoors His favorite thing was being with his family.

Art is preceded in death by his parents and brother Doyle. Survivors include his brother Dick and family, Audrey, children Debbie Lang (Graham),
Vickie Gudgel (Ken), Brian Mathis (Kathy), Bruce Mathis (Mary), Lori Mathis, numerous grandchildren and great- grandchildren.

Memorial services will be held Tuesday November 13, 2018 at 2:00 pm at Heritage Funeral Home, 508 Government Way, Spokane.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
